목성의 대기 아래

목성은 우리가 아는 것보다 더 특이한 행성이다.

 

NASA 의 주노 우주선이 높은 이심률을 보이는 타원형 궤도에서 6번째 목성 통과를 완료하였다.

 

사진 아래쪽으로 보이는 목성은 행성 전체를 뒤덮다가 소용돌이와 복잡한 패턴을 그리며 사라져가는 가로 띠들을 보여주고 있다. 

목성의 적도 근처로는 하얀색의 타원형 구름들이 나란히 도열한 모습이 보인다. 

 

최근 주노 탐사 결과는 목성의 기상 현상이 상층 구름 하단 깊숙히까지 뻗쳐 있으며 목성의 자기장은 위치에 따라 대단히 다양한 편차를 보여주고 있다는 사실을 보여주었다. 

 

주노는 6주 주기의 목성 공전을 총 37회 진행하도록 계획되어 있다.

Explanation: Jupiter is stranger than we knew. NASA's Juno spacecraft has now completed its sixth swoop past Jupiter as it moves around its highly elliptical orbit. Pictured, Jupiter is seen from below where, surprisingly, the horizontal bands that cover most of the planet disappear into swirls and complex patterns. A line of white oval clouds is visible nearer to the equator. Recent results from Junoshow that Jupiter's weather phenomena can extend deep below its cloud tops, and that Jupiter's magnetic field varies greatly with location. Juno is scheduled to orbit Jupiter 37 times with each orbit taking about six weeks.
