은하수와 황도광

 

 

10월의 밤하늘을 담아낸 이 사진에는 지구의 하늘에 펼쳐진 태초의 평면 두 개가 유령처럼 모습을 드러내고 있다.  

 

이 사진은 미국 메인호 북쪽의 호숫가에 자리잡은 캠핑장에서 촬영되었다.  

사진에서 우리 은하의 아치가 지평선을 따라보이는 희미한 대기광 위로 보이고 있다. 

 

그리고 태양이 지나는 길을 따라 흩뿌려진 우주먼지에 태양빛이 반사되면서 만들어지는 황도광이 

밝은 표식이 되어주고 있는 목성 근처에서 은하수와 교차하며 거의 수평으로 나타나고 있다. 

목성의 오른쪽으로 플레이아데스 성단을 지나서 게겐샤인으로 알려져 있는 황도대의 밝은 띠가 밤하늘에 펼쳐진 모습이 보인다. 

 

수많은 별들에 둘러싸여 멀리 보이는 산 위로 떠오르고 있는  오리온 자리가 고요한 호수에 반사되어 보이고 있다.

Zodiacal Light and Milky Way

Explanation: Ghostly apparitions of two fundamental planes in planet Earth's sky span this October all-sky view. The scene was captured from a lakeside campsite under dark skies in northern Maine, USA. In it, the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy arcs above faint airglow along the horizon. Zodiacal light, a band of dust scattering sunlight along the solar system'secliptic plane, stretches almost horizontally across the wide field and intersects the Milky way near a point marked by bright planet Jupiter. Right of Jupiter, past the Pleiades star cluster, is the brightening of the Zodiacal band known as the Gegenschein, also visible to the eye on that dark night. Begirt with many a blazing star and rising above the distant mountains, Orion the hunter is reflected in the lake's calm waters.
