이 상상화는 케플러-62e(Kepler-62e)라는 슈퍼 지구 급의 행성을 묘사한 것으로

이 행성은 거문고 자리 1200광년 거리에 태양보다 약간 작고 차가운 별의 주위, 생명체 거주 가능 영역을 공전하고 있는 행성이다.

 

케플러 62e 는 122일을 주기로 자신의 별을 공전하고 있으며 크기는 지구 대비 60%정도 더 크다.

 

과학자들은 이 행성이 물로 이루어진 행성인지 아니면 고체 표면을 지닌 행성인지 아직 결정하지 못하고 있다.
그러나 다른 연구과정에서 포착된 신호는 이 행성이 지구와 유사한 성질을 가진 행성임을 암시하고 있다.

Kepler-62e

 

The artist's concept depicts Kepler-62e, a super-Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of a star smaller and cooler than the sun, located about 1,200 light-years from Earth in the constellation Lyra.

Kepler-62e orbits it's host star every 122 days and is roughly 60 percent larger than Earth in size. Scientists do not know if Kepler-62e is a waterworld or if it has a solid surface, but its discovery signals another step closer to finding a world similar to Earth.
