토성을 향해 손을 흔드는 지구

 

 

 

이 친근한 포토콜라주는 지난 7월 19일 카시니호 임무 중 '토성을 향해 손흔들기'이벤트에 참여한 지구시민들의 1400개 이상의 사진으로 만들어진 것이다. 
 
기본 틀이 된 지구의 사진은 지난 7월 19일, 토성궤도를 공전중인 카시니호에 탑재된 카메라가 촬영한 사진배경 속에 창백한 푸른점으로서 나타난 지구의 모습에 대응되는 사진이다.  
 

물론 당시 토성은 지구로부터 9.65AU거리에 위치하고 있었기 때문에, 지구인들이 손을 흔드는 모습은 80분이 지나서야 토성에 도달할 수 있었다.

Earth Waves at Saturn

Explanation: This friendly photo collage is constructed from more than 1,400 images shared by denizens of planet Earth as part of the Cassini Mission's July 19th Wave at Saturn event. The base picture of Earth corresponds to the view from the Saturn-orbiting Cassini spacecraft on that date as its own cameras recorded images including planet Earth as a pale blue dot in the background. Of course, Saturn was 9.65 Astronomical Units away at the time, so it took light from all the waving Earth dwellers just over 80 minutes to travel there. Want to smile?
