태양계 축척 모형을 만들고 싶은가?

 

지름 1.4센티미터의 파란 구슬이 지구의 축척 모델로서는 적절한 선택일 것 같다.

태양의 지름은 지구 지름의 109배이기 때문에 이 경우 1.5미터 직경의 풍선이 태양을 대신할 수 있을 것이다.

 

동일한 축척 상에서 태양과 지구의 거리 1억 5천만 킬로미터는 180미터 아래로 떨어지게 된다.

따라서 외행성들의 공전궤도까지 포함하여 이 축척 모델을 완성하려 한다면 마당에서는 충분치 않을 것 같다.

그러나 바짝 마른 호수 바닥과 같이 충분한 공간을 찾을 수도 있을 것이다.

Explanation: Want to build a scale model Solar System? A blue marble 1.4 centimeters (about half an inch) across would be a good choice for a scale model Earth. Since the Sun is 109 times the diameter of Earth, a 1.5 meter diameter balloon could represent the Sun. But the distance between the Earth and Sun, 150 million kilometers, would translate to just under 180 meters (590 feet) at the same scale. That would mean the completed project, including the orbits of the outer planets, is probably not going to fit in your backyard. Still, you might find enough room on a dry lakebed.
