날개 너머 행성들.

최근 이른새벽 하늘에서 밝게 빛나는 목성과 이보다는 약간 희미한 화성을 쉽게 볼 수 있다.

 

1월 7일 해뜨기 전 이 두 개 행성이 지평선 부근에서 0.25도가 채 안되는 각거리까지 가까워졌다.

두 개 행성의 겉보기 간격은 보름달 지름의 반 정도에 해당하는 정도였다.

 

지난 1월 5일 이른아침 비행기 날개너머를 바라보며 촬영된 이 사진에는 목성(왼쪽)과 화성(중앙), 그리고 이들과 균형감이 느껴지게 잘 도열해선 천칭자리 알파별 주벤엘게누비(Zubenelgenubi)가 담겨 있다.

 

아래 지상으로는 체코 공화국 프라하 인근, 중부 유럽의 불빛들이 보인다.

Planets on the Wing

Explanation: Lately, bright Jupiter and fainter Mars have been easy to spot for early morning skygazers. Before dawn on January 7 the two naked-eye planets will reach a close conjunction near the horizon, only 1/4 degree apart in predawn eastern skies. That apparent separation corresponds to about half the angular diameter of a Full Moon. Just off the wing of a high-flying aircraft in this snapshot from early morning January 5, Jupiter (left) and Mars (middle) are also lined-up with the well-balancedZubenelgenubi (right), alpha star of the constellation Libra. Below are lights from central Europe near Prague, Czech Republic, planet Earth.
