유성과 달무지개

 

 

 

하늘과 땅을 망라하여 담아낸 이 사진에서 어떤 모습이 가장 먼저 당신의 숨을 멎게 만들고 있는가?

폭포와 유성, 별이 가득 들어찬 하늘, 심지어 는 달무지개까지, 강력한 경쟁자들이 당신의 눈길을 잡아끌기 위해 경합하고 있다. 

 

하지만 우선 염두에 두어야 할 재미있는 한 가지는 우리가 볼 수 없는 것이 한 가지 있다는 것이다. --  그것은 바로 카메라가 촬영한 이 사진의 반대쪽으로 달이 떠오르고 있다는 사실이다. 

  

밝은 달은 호주 퀸스랜드의 아름다운 풍경을 밝게 비추어 주고 있을 뿐 아니라 왈라만 폭포 전면에 아름다운 달무지개까지 만들어내고 있다. 

 

능선 바로 위에 수평으로 보이는 줄무늬는 비행기가 만든 것이다. 

사진 상단에 위아래로 뻗어있는 줄무늬는 유성이 만들어낸 것이다.

유성은 우리 태양계를 떠돌던 작은 돌맹이들이  지구 대기로 진입할 때 만들어지는 불꽃이다. 

 

유성 바로 뒤로는 수많은 밝은 별들과 성운들이 우리 은하중심을 향해 도열해 있는 모습이 보인다.   

 

마지막으로 우리 은하의 띠가 왼쪽하단에서 오른쪽 상단으로 비스듬히 걸쳐 있는 모습이 보이는데 우리 은하는 하늘 전체를 휘어감고 있었다.

Meteor and Moonbow over Wallaman Falls

Explanation: Which feature takes your breath away first in this encompassing panorama of land and sky? The competition is strong with a waterfall, meteor, starfield, and even amoonbow all vying for attention. It is interesting to first note, though, what can't be seen -- a rising moon on the other side of the camera. The bright moon not only illuminated this beautiful landscape in Queensland, Australia last June, but also created the beautiful moonbow seen in front of Wallaman Falls. Just above the ridge in the above image is the horizontal streak of an airplane. Toward the top of the frame is the downward streak of a bright meteor, a small pebble from across our Solar System that lit up as it entered the Earth's atmosphere. Well behind the meteor are numerous bright stars and nebula seen toward the center of our Galaxy. Finally, far in the background, is the band of our Milky Way Galaxy, running diagonally from the lower left to the upper right in the image but also circling the entire sky.
