태양활동관측위성이 다파장으로 바라본 태양

 

 

 

오늘 세계표준시 17시 11분에 태양이 지점에 이르렀다.
태양은 1년에 걸친 하늘에서의 여정 중 남반구에서 가장 높은 곳에 도달한 것이다.

12월의 지점은 천문학적으로는 북반구에서는 겨울, 남반구에서는 여름의 시작을 알리는 표지이다.

 

이를 기념하기 위해 태양활동 관측위성(Solar Dynamics Observatory, SDO)의 데이터를 이용하여 가시광선부터 자외선파장까지의 관측자료를 담은 독창적인 사진을 만들어냈다.
가시광 파장으로 만들어진 태양원반을 배경으로 그 위에 쐐기 모양으로 구분된 각 조각들은 짧은 자외선 파장부터 극자외선 파장까지를 표현하고 있다.

인위적인 색갈을 입혀 표현된 이 사진은 시계방향으로 170 나노미터(분홍색)파장으로부터 점점 파장을 낮추어 9.4 나노미터(초록색)파장까지를 표현하고 있다.
짧은 파장으로 갈수록, 해당 지역의 고도와 온도는 태양대기에서 점점 증가하는 경향을 보여주고 있다.

가시광선 파장에서 밝게 보이는 태양 광구는 자외선에서는 좀더 어둡게 보이지만 태양 흑점은 밝게 보이며 밝은 플라스마는 자기장을 따라 궤적을 그리며 돌고 있다.

SDO's Multiwavelength Sun

Explanation: Today, the solstice is at 17:11 Universal Time, the Sun reaching the southernmost declination in its yearly journey through planet Earth's sky. The December solstice marks the astronomical beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere and summer in the south. To celebrate, explore this creative visualization of the Sun from visible to extreme ultraviolet wavelengths, using image data from the orbiting Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). Against a base image made at a visible wavelengths, the wedge-shaped segments show the solar disk at increasingly shorter ultraviolet and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. Shown in false-color and rotating in a clockwise direction, the filters decrease in wavelength from 170 nanometers (in pink) through 9.4 nanometers (green). At shorter wavelengths, the altitude and temperature of the regions revealed in the solar atmosphere tend to increase. Bright at visible wavelengths, the solar photosphere looks darker in the ultraviolet, but sunspots glow and bright plasma traces looping magnetic fields.
