할레아칼라 상공의 구름과 십자성들

숨이 멎을듯한 멋진 하늘의 풍경에 온 것을 환영한다. 
이 꿈같은 파노라마 사진은 3월 27일 화와이 할레아칼라산 3천미터 정상에서 촬영된 것이다.

 

 

층층이진 구름이 우리은하 및 별들이 가득 들어찬 하늘과 화산의 칼데라가 맞닿은 모서리에서 새어나오고 있다.
북반구 십자성 자리의 머리 부분, 초거대성 데네브가 왼쪽으로 우리 은하의 먼지구름과 성운들 안에서 빛을 뿜어내고 있다.
이곳으로부터 우리 은하의 아치를 따라가다보면 보다 컴팩트한 남십자성을 볼 수 있는데 사진에서는 오른쪽 멀리 지평선 바로 위에 나타나 있다.

 

 

노란색 빛을 뿜어내는 화성이 사진 상단 오른쪽에 보이고 화성의 라이별처럼 밝게 빛나는 적색 거성 안타레스가 그 아래 우리 은하의 중심 팽대부보다 더 가까이에 위치하고 있다.

 

각 별을 식별하고 싶으면 사진위에 커서를 올리거나 사진을 다운로드 받으면 된다.

Clouds and Crosses over Haleakala

Explanation: Aloha and welcome to a breathtaking skyscape. The dreamlike panoramic view from March 27 looks out over the 10,000 foot summit of Haleakala on Maui, Hawai'i. A cloud layer seeps over the volcanic caldera's edge with the Milky Way and starry night sky above. Head of the Northern Cross asterism, supergiant star Deneb lurks within the Milky Way's dust clouds and nebulae at the left. From there you can follow the arc of the Milky Way all the way to the stars of the more compact Southern Cross, just above the horizon at the far right. A yellowish Mars is right of center, near the top of the frame, with rival red giant Antares below it, closer to the Milky Way's central bulge. Need some help identifying the stars?
