춘분의 일몰

저 길 끝에 있는 것은 무엇일까? 저것은 바로 태양이다.

 

길이 동서로 난 여러 도시들이 있는데, 이 도시들에서는 일년에 두 번, 태양이 그 길을 따라 뜨고 진다.
오늘이 바로 그 두 날 중 하나인 춘분이다.

이 날은 단순히 낮과 밤이 똑같은 날일 뿐만 아니라 태양이 정확히 동쪽에서 떠서 정확히 서쪽으로 가라앉는 날이기도 하다.

 

사진에 담긴 이 그림과 같은 길은 일리노이주 북서부에 있는 길로서 정확히 동서로 뻗어있는 것이다.

이 사진이 촬영된 것은 1년 전 오늘인 2015년 3월의 춘분때 촬영된 것으로 길을 따라 저무는 태양의 모습이 연출되어 있다.

 

여러 문화권에서 3월 춘분은 계절의 시작을 알리는 날로서 북반구에서는 봄이, 남반구에서는 가을이 시작되는 날이다.

 

여러분이 좋아하는 길 중 동서로 뻗은 길이 있는가?
그렇다면 오늘 밤, 저무는 해를 바라보면 이와 같은 모습을 볼 수 있을 것이다.

A Picturesque Equinox Sunset

Explanation: What's that at the end of the road? The Sun. Many towns have roads that run east - west, and on two days each year, the Sun rises and sets right down the middle. Today is one of those days: an equinox. Not only is today a day of equal night ("aequus"-"nox") and day time, but also a day when the sun rises precisely to the east and sets due west. Featured here is a picturesque road in northwest Illinois, USA that runs approximately east -west. The image was taken one year ago today, during the March Equinox of 2015, and shows the Sun down the road at sunset. In many cultures, this March equinox is taken to be the first day of a season, typically spring in Earth's northern hemisphere, and autumn in the south. Does your favorite street run east - west?
