무시무시한 행성의 밤

이 무시무시한 행성은 무슨 행성일까?

이곳은 물론 행성 지구이다. 

어둡고 폭풍가득한 2013년 어느 날의 야경이 담긴 이곳은 아이슬란드 북동부 화산활동 지역을 따라 왕성한 지열 활동을 보이는 지역인 흐베리르(

Hverir)이다.

 

지구의 자기폭풍이 별이 가득찬 밤하늘에 오로라를 연출하고 있으며 분기공으로부터 분출된 증기와 가스가 초록빛 하늘을 배경으로 춤을 추며 유령과 같이 으스스한 탑을 만들고 있다. 

 

오늘밤 최근의 태양 활동에 의해 여전히 자기폭풍이 촉발될 기회가 남아 있으며, 따라서 고위도 지방에 있는 천체 관측가들은 주의를 기울여야 한다.

물론 당신의 이웃들도 유령과 같은 모습을 하고 춤을 추며 곧 나타날지도 모르겠다.

Night on a Spooky Planet

Explanation: What spooky planet is this? Planet Earth of course, on a dark and stormy night in 2013 at Hverir, a geothermally active area along the volcanic landscape in northeastern Iceland. Geomagnetic storms produced the auroral display in the starry night sky while ghostly towers of steam and gas venting from fumaroles danced against the eerie greenish light. Tonight, there is also a chance for geomagnetic storms triggered by recent solar activity, so high-latitude skygazers should beware. Ghostly shapesmay dance in your neighborhood pretty soon, too.
