마차부자리 AE별과 불타는별성운

왜 마차부자리 AE별은 불타오는 별로 불리는 것일까?

 

그 이유중 하나는 이 별의 주위를 휘감고 있는 성운 IC 405가 불타는별성운 이라는 이름으로 불리기 때문이다.

이 지역은 안쪽에 안겨 있는 마차부자리 AE별을 포함하여 일체의 불을 붙일만한 천체가 없음에도 연기를 가득 머금고 있는 듯이 보이는 지역이다.

 

발화 현상은 분자가 빠르게 산소를 얻는 과정으로 정의된다. 

이러한 일은 산소가 충분히 존재할 때만 일어난다. 

마차부자리 AE별 주변과 같이 고에너지가 넘쳐나지만 산소가 적게 존재하는 조건은 중요한 조건이 아닌 것이다.

 

이곳에서 마치 연기처럼 보이는 물질들은 대부분 별사이 우주공간에 있는 수소들이다. 

이들은 탄소가 풍부하게 함유된 먼지 알갱이로 만들어진 검은 먼지다발을 품고 있는데 이것이 마치 연기처럼 보이는 것이다.

 

마차부자리 AE별이 성운 거의 정중앙에 보인다. 

이 별은 너무나 뜨거운 별이어서 파란색으로 보이며 이 별로부터 쏟아져나온 빛이 그 주변 가스의 원자에서 전자를 날려버리며 이온화시키고 있다.

그리고 전자를 일어버린 원자가 전자를 다시 잡아올 때 나오는 복사가 발광성운을 만들어내고 있다.

 

불타는 별 성운은 1500 광년 거리에 위치하고 있다. 

그 폭은 5 광년이며 마차부자리 방향으로 작은 망원경으로도 관측이 가능하다.

AE Aurigae and the Flaming Star Nebula

Explanation: Why is AE Aurigae called the flaming star? For one reason, the surrounding nebula IC 405 is named the Flaming Star Nebula because the region seems to harbor smoke, even though nothing is on fire, including interior star AE Aurigae. Fire, typically defined as the rapid molecular acquisition of oxygen, happens only when sufficient oxygen is present and is not important in such high-energy, low-oxygen environments. The material that appears as smoke is mostly interstellar hydrogen, but does contain smoke-like dark filaments of carbon-rich dust grains. The bright star AE Aurigae is visible near the nebula center and is so hot it is blue, emitting light so energetic it knocks electrons away from atoms in the surrounding gas. When an atom recaptures an electron, light is emitted creating the surrounding emission nebula. TheFlaming Star nebula lies about 1,500 light years distant, spans about 5 light years, and is visible with a small telescope toward the constellation of the Charioteer (Auriga).
