아폴로 17호가 바라본 달 (입체사진)

빨간색과 파란색의 샐로판지를 붙인 입체안경을 가지고 또 다른 세계에서 촬영된 이 놀라운 입체 사진을 바라보라

 

이 사진은 유진 서넌을 사령관으로 한  아폴로 17호 임무가 수행되던 1972년 12월 11일, 달에 착륙하기 바로 전 한 차례 궤도비행을 하던 중 촬영한 것이다.

 

이 입체 사진은 달 궤도 선회선인 첼린저 호에 동료 헤리슨 슈미트(Harrison Schmitt)와 함께 탑승하고 있던 유진 서넌이 아폴로 17호의 착륙목표 지점인 타우루스-리트로우 계곡 상공을 지날 때  촬영한 두 개의 사진(AS17-147-22465, AS17-147-22466)을 조합하여 만든 것이다.

 

사진 중앙 부근에는 타우르스-리트로의 어두운 바닥면 위에서 왼쪽으로 뻗어가는, 사우스 메시프(South Massif rises, 남반구 단층 융기선)라 명명된 산맥이 햇빛을 받고 있다.

 

이 산맥 너머로 달 가장 자리 쪽에 자리잡고 있는 것이 고요의 바다이다.

 

론 에반스에 의해 조정되는 사령선 아메리카 호가 사우스 메시프의 봉우리 앞쪽으로 보인다.

Explanation: Get out your red/blue glasses and check out this awesome stereo view of another world. The scene was recorded by Apollo 17 mission commander Eugene Cernan on December 11, 1972, one orbit before descending to land on the Moon. The stereo anaglyph was assembled from two photographs (AS17-147-22465, AS17-147-22466) captured from his vantage point on board the Lunar Module Challenger as he and Dr. Harrison Schmitt flew over Apollo 17's landing site in the Taurus-Littrow Valley. The broad, sunlit face of the mountain dubbed South Massif rises near the center of the frame, above the dark floor of Taurus-Littrow to its left. Beyond the mountains, toward the lunar limb, lies the Moon's Mare Serenitatis. Piloted by Ron Evans, the Command Module America is visible in orbit in the foreground against theSouth Massif's peak.
