NGC 7635

 

 

 

거대한 질량의 별로부터 불어나온 성간폭풍이 흡사 유령과도 같은 모습을 만들어냈다.

NGC 7635로 등재되어 있는 이 천체는 거품성운으로 불리기도 한다.

 

수소 알파 필터로 장기간 노출을 통해 찰영된 이 사진은 이 천체와 그 주변 환경에 대한 상세한 정보를 제공해주고 있다.

 

비록 이 사진에는 섬세한 모습으로 나타나있지만, 거품 자체의 지름은 무려 10광년으로서
이곳에 대단히 파괴적인 사건이 진행되고 있음을 알려주고 있다.

 

중앙 거품속 우측 상단의 밝고 뜨거운 별은 울프-레이예  별로서 태양보다 10배에서 20배 정도의 질량을 가진 별이다.

이 별로부터 뿜어져 나온 격렬한 성간폭풍과 강력한 복사로 인해 불타고 있는 가스들이 주위 고밀도의 분자구름들을 밀쳐내고 있다.

 

이 성운은 카시오페이아 자리 방향으로 약 1만 1천광년 떨어져 있다.

The Bubble Nebula

Explanation: Blown by the wind from a massive star, this interstellar apparition has a surprisingly familiar shape. Cataloged as NGC 7635, it is also known simply as The Bubble Nebula. This colorful telescopic image includes a long exposure through a hydrogen alpha filter to reveal details of the cosmic bubble and its environment. Although it looks delicate, the 10 light-year diameter bubble offers evidence of violent processes at work. Above and right of the Bubble's center is a bright, hot, Wolf-Rayet star with a mass 10 to 20 times that of the Sun. A fierce stellar wind and intense radiation from the star has blasted out the structure of glowing gas against denser material in a surrounding molecular cloud. The intriguing Bubble Nebula lies a mere 11,000 light-years away toward the boastful constellation Cassiopeia.
