토성의 달과 고리, 그림자와 구름.

토성 주위를 비행하는 동안 토성의 달과 고리, 그리고 그림자가 멋지게 늘어선 배열을 바라보고 있다.

그 중 한 번의 그림과 같은 배열이 2005년에 발생했고, 그 장면은 카시니호에 의해 촬영되었다.

 

사진에서 테티스와 미마스가 거의 모서리를 드러내고 있는 토성의 얇은 고리 양쪽 모두에서 보인다.

토성 위쪽을 가로질러가는 것은 토성 고리 그림자이다. 

이 그림자는 고리의 인상적인 복잡성을 잘 드러내주고 있다.

보라색 대역을 살린 사진은 배경이 되는 토성 구름의 질감을 한층 더 확실하게 보여준다.

 

카시니호는 2004년부터 작년 9월까지 토성탐사를 진행했다. 

그리고 토성의 다른 위성들을 오염시키지 않기 위해 토성으로 추락해들어가며 임무를 마쳤다.

Moons, Rings, Shadows, Clouds: Saturn (Cassini)

Explanation: While cruising around Saturn, be on the lookout for picturesque juxtapositions of moons, rings, and shadows. One quite picturesque arrangement occurred in 2005 and was captured by the then Saturn-orbiting Cassini spacecraft. In the featured image, moons Tethys and Mimas are visible on either side of Saturn's thin rings, which are seen nearly edge-on. Across the top of Saturn are dark shadows of the wide rings, exhibiting their impressive complexity. The violet-light image brings up the texture of the backdrop: Saturn's clouds. Cassini orbited Saturn from 2004 until September of last year, when the robotic spacecraft was directed to dive into Saturn to keep it fromcontaminating any moons.
