사냥꾼의 달(the Hunter's Moon)

 

 

 

보름달이 지는 광경은 드라마틱한 모습을 연출하기도 하고, 보름달은 여러가지 이름을 가지고 있기도 하다. 

 

10월 하순에 나타난 보름달은 북반구에서는 추분 이후 두 번째 보름달이기도 한데, 추분 이후 두 번째 보름달은 전통적으로 사냥꾼의 달(the Hunter's Moon)이라 불린다. 

 

전승에서 연유하는 이 이름은 참으로 적절한 이름이라 할 수 있다.

왜냐하면 이 때의 보름달은 다가오는 겨울을 준비하는 사냥을 위해 밤새도록 빛을 비춰주기 때문이다. 

 

이 사진은 지난 주 노란빛을 가득 담은 사냥꾼의 달을 담은 것으로 새벽이 다가오는 이탈리아의 알프스에서 촬영한 것이다. 

 

3.35킬로미터 높이로 솟아있는, 로슈멜롱의 불꽃으로 알려져 있는 눈덮힌 봉우리가 이제막 떠오르는 태양빛을 받아 붉게 물들고 있다.

Explanation: A Full Moonset can be a dramatic celestial sight, and Full Moons can have many names. Late October's Full Moon, the second Full Moon after the northern hemisphere autumnal equinox, has been traditionally called the Hunter's Moon. According to lore, the name is a fitting one because this Full Moon lights the night during a time for hunting in preparation for the coming winter months. In this scene, last week's Hunter's Moon shines with a rich yellow light, setting as dawn comes to the Italian Alps. Topping out at over 11,000 feet, the snowy peak known as Rochemelon glows, just catching the first reddened light of the rising Sun.
