달에 내려선 탐사로봇 위투(Yutu)

 

 

 

책상 정도 크기의 새로운 로봇이 달을 탐사하기 시작했다.

2주전 중국 국립 우주국이 발사한 창이 3호가 어제 달에 착륙하여 탐사로봇을 달에 내려놓았다.

중국 전승에서 달에 살고 있는 옥토끼 이름을 따서 위투라는 이름이 명명된 이 탐사로봇은 앞으로 3개월동안 달의 충돌 크레이터 중 하나인 무지개 만 내부를 수킬로미터에 걸쳐 탐사할 예정이다.

위투에 탑재된 카메라와 분광분석기는 달의 토양 구조와 그 구성성분을 조사하는 한편 레이더로 토양을 투과시켜 표피 아래의 토양 구조도 함께 탐사할 예정이다.

창이 3호는 1976년 소련의 루나 24호 이래 처음으로 달에 착륙한 우주선이 되었으며, 위투는 1973년 소련의 루노코드 2호 이래 처음으로 달을 탐사하는 로봇이 되었다.

Yutu Rover Rolls onto the Moon

Explanation: A new desk-sized rover has begun exploring the Moon. Launched two weeks ago by the Chinese National Space Administration, the Chang'e 3 spacecraft landed on the Moon yesterday and deployed the robotic rover. Yutu, named for a folklore lunar Jade Rabbit, has a scheduled three-month mission to explore several kilometers inside the Sinus Iridum (Latin for "Bay of Rainbows") impact crater. Yutu's cameras and spectrometers will investigate surface features and composition while ground penetrating radar will investigate deep soil structure. Chang'e 3 achieved the first soft Moon landing since the Soviet Union's Luna 24 in 1976, and Yutu is the first lunar rover deployed since the USSR's Lunokhod 2 in 1973.
