화성에서 촬영한 큐리오시티호의 셀카

셀카야 수도없이 찍어봤겠지만, 화성에서 셀카를 찍어본 적은 있는가?

화성에 있는 큐리오시티는 화성에서 셀카를 찍었다.

 

이 셀카는 여러개의 작은 사진을 이어붙여 만들어진 것이다. 

그 와중에 카메라를 들고 있는 큐리오시티호의 로봇팔은 사진에는 나타나지 않았다.

(물론 이 로봇팔의 그림자는 사진에 담겨 있다.)

 

2015년 중반에 촬영된 이 사진에는 모험심 가득한 큐리오시티호 뿐만 아니라 검은 층을 가진 바위들과 밝은 빛을 보이는 샤프산의 봉우리, 그리고 화성을 가득 덮고 있는 녹슨 모래들이 함께 담겨 있다.

 

사진을 자세히 살펴보면 큐리오시티호의 바퀴에 낀 작은 돌멩이도 볼 수 있다.

 

2017년도 거의 끝나가는 지금, 큐리오시티호는 베라 루빈 능선에서 발견한 퇴적암 층에 대한 탐사를 계속하고 있다. 

이 연구는 고대 화성의 지질학적 연대기가 어땠는지, 특히 왜 이와 같은 유형의 바위가 이곳에 존재하는지를 알아내고자 하는 목적으로 진행되고 있다.

Curiosity Rover Takes Selfie on Mars

Explanation: Yes, but have you ever taken a selfie on Mars? The Curiosity rover on Mars has. This selfie was compiled from many smaller images -- which is why the mechanical arm holding the camera is not visible. (Although its shadow is!) Taken in mid-2015, the featured image shows not only the adventurous rover, but dark layered rocks, the light colored peak of Mount Sharp, and the rusting red sand that pervades Mars. If you look closely, you can even see that a small rock is stuck into one ofCuriosity's aging wheels. Now nearing the end of 2017, Curiosity continues to explore the layers of sedimentary rocks it has discovered on Vera Rubin Ridge in order tobetter understand, generally, the ancient geologic history of Mars and, specifically, why these types of rocks exist there.
