터키에서 촬영된 페르세우스별비

연중 최상의 별비를 보여주는 페르세우스별비가 다음주 후반 절정을 맞게 된다.

어두운 곳에서 청명한 하늘을 볼 수 있다면 매 분 단위로 밝은 별똥별을 볼 수 있을 것이다.

 

이 별똥별들은 스위프트-터틀 혜성으로부터 떨어져나온 암석 부스러기들로 만들어지는 것이다. 

이 암석부스러기들은 지구 대기에서 증발하게 될 때까지 계속 태양 주위를 돌고 있다.

 

이 인상적인 사진은 지난해 터키에서 촬영된 페르세우스별비 사진들을 합성한 것이다.

각 별똥별의 방사형 궤적을 따라가보면 왼쪽 멀리 페르세우스자리를 역추적해 볼 수 있을만큼 충분한 별똥별들이 담겨 있다.

 

페르세우스 별비의 끝자락은 오는 8월 21일 개기일식이 일어나는 기간까지 이어진다

따라서 운좋은 천체사진가라면 한낮의 페르세우스별비를 촬영할 수도 있을 것이다.

Perseid Meteors over Turkey

Explanation: The Perseid Meteor Shower, usually the best meteor shower of the year, will peak late next week. A person watching a clear sky from a dark location might see a bright meteor every minute. These meteors are actually specks of rock that have broken off Comet Swift-Tuttle and continued to orbit the Sun until they vaporize inEarth's atmosphere. The featured composite image shows a outburst of Perseids as they appeared over Turkey during last year's meteor shower. Enough meteors were captured to trace the shower's radiant back to the constellation of Perseus on the far left. The tail-end of the Perseids will still be going during the total solar eclipse on August 21, creating a rare opportunity for some lucky astrophotographers to image a Perseid meteor during the day.
